A popular watering hole for Huddersfield canal boaters and walkers this is a family run business originating from the local vilage of Greenfield. Next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, this stone pub was built in 1806 to slake the thirst of navvies cutting the Standedge Tunnel. It comprises a open-plan bar with four handpumps and an L-shaped interior . Freshly-prepared food is varied and popular, with special offers Monday-Saturday and occasional themed evenings. A venue for the popular Saddleworth Rushcart Festival in August. Dog friendly and families welcome at all times.

Has changed plans and will now open Friday to Sunday from April 16 mid-afternoon until 8 or so, moving to full hours when indoor drinking resumes. A tent has been added on veranda. Bookings advised.
